Difficulty Level: *Super Easy
So my dad was headed to the grocery store the other day and asked if I needed anything. I needed some ginger for a recipe so asked him to grab me some. This is what he brought home:
Actually it was more than this – I used a bunch of it already.
It’s hot in Ottawa right now…and oh so very humid, I have a triathlon on Saturday, and a hell of a lot of ginger. This can only mean one thing – homemade ginger-ale!
This drink is simple and has a lovely effervescent quality. Mmmmm…effervescent. It is super refreshing after excising in the heat and will help reduce inflammation which helps recovery time. It makes a great substitute for soda and is much more exciting than plain water. Ginger has tonnes of medicinal properties too.
Materials:
- 1 lemon
- 2 cups of water (you can use sparkling mineral water too, or for an electrolyte drink, coconut water)
- 1 tbsp of liquid sweetener (agave nectar, honey, even maple syrup)
- 1/2 tbsp grated ginger (or just chop it depending on how well your blender performs).
- A bit of sea salt
Directions:
- Squeeze the lemon juice into a blender.
- Add water, liquid sweetener, ginger, and salt.
- Blend
- Drink cold and enjoy!
That’s it. This same drink is also great for winter colds. Just make it as described, but then heat it up in a small saucepan.
